Halima Aden on Hijab-Wearing Women in Fashion: "It's Not Something I Thought I'd See"

"Halima Aden first made headlines—and history—when she wore a burkini during the Miss Teen Minnesota USA pageant in 2016. Since, the 19-year-old Somali has caught the eye of Carine Roitfeld, who then put her on the cover of her magazine, CR Fashion Book—which led to Aden signing with IMG models, and walking in the fall 2017 Yeezy show in New York, and Alberta Ferretti and Max Mara runways in Milan. To say it's been a whirlwind for Aden, who was born in a refugee camp in Kenya and grew up in Bancock, Minnesota, is a definite understatement. We caught up with the model in New York before she returned to her hometown, and talked about what it's like to be a standard-bearer for diversity in fashion, modest style, and hanging backstage with Gigi Hadid."
