"Marai Larasi is the Executive Director of Imkaan, a United Kingdom-based black and minority ethnic women's organization which works to prevent and respond to violence against marginalized European girls and women. She also co-chairs the End Violence Against Women Coalition, which became a registered charity with her as a co-chair on 31 March 2015.
Larasi was ranked number 80 in the World Pride Power List 2013. She attended the 75th Golden Globe Awards in 2018 as a guest of Emma Watson.” (1)
Larasi writes “I have been working on ending violence against women for 23 years. BME women have always been central to my practice. Even before I had the language to describe ‘intersectionality’, I somehow understood that the journeys of BME women and girls were being shaped by exclusion and marginalization in different ways to our counterparts. I joined Imkaan in 2009, and this has provided me with the opportunity to focus my work primarily on BME women and girls. However, even before I joined Imkaan, I worked with colleagues to develop specialist services for BME women – for example, shelter accommodation for refugee women who had experienced violence.” (2)
